Former Hawkeye, NFL player is first ANF honoree in Iowa

Former Iowa Hawkeye and NFL player Casey Wiegmann was recently recognized as the first America Needs Farmers (ANF) Wall of Honor inductee by Iowa Farm Bureau.

The ANF Wall of Honor salutes former University of Iowa football student-athletes who “exemplify the tenacity, work ethic, and character of the Iowa farmer, qualities that have helped Iowa remain the leading agriculture state in the nation”. Their names will be added to a plaque inside ANF Plaza which is located in the northwest corner of Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. That plaque rests next to another that tells the story of ANF and the importance of farming.

Wiegmann is originally from Parkersburg, Iowa.  While he didn’t grow up on a farm, he has always had close connections to agriculture.  In fact, Wiegmann and a friend own farmland in Iowa and Casey says he intends to get more involved in the farming operation in the future.

Brownfield visited with Wiegmann about his playing career, his ties to agriculture and his deep respect for the people who feed the world.
