Farm economy shortcomings hidden in averages

Brownfield’s Tom Steever interviews Bob Young.

There are many facets of the farm economy that are doing ok, but on the other hand, “there are absolutely parts of the ag economy that are kind of just hanging on,” according to Bob Young, Chief Economist for the American Farm Bureau Federation. On average, Young told Brownfield Ag News, the farm economy appears to be doing quite well, but that doesn’t include everyone. Young cites as an example the independent hog producer, who, since this past summer, has faced tremendous increases in feed costs.
