Brownfield Ag News Sponsors ‘Managing for Profit’ Sessions at AG CONNECT

Brownfield Ag News will sponsor three “Managing for Profit” educational sessions at AG CONNECT Expo & Summit 2013, one each day of the show. Sessions will follow the same format as Brownfield’s popular “Managing for Profit” radio program.

Brownfield Ag News is the official radio partner of AG CONNECT, which is scheduled for January 29-31, 2013, at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

“We’re excited about covering what’s new at AG CONNECT and sponsoring the ‘Managing for Profit’ sessions,” said Cyndi Young, farm director at Brownfield Ag News. “Both session presenters have a wealth of experience and insight to share with show attendees. This is the just the kind of information producers need to help their operations thrive in the years ahead.”

“Managing for Profit” times and presenters are as follows:

Tuesday, January 29, 2013 – 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 – 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Bill Graff will present both days but will alter his presentation each day.

Graff farms in central Illinois. He and his family raise corn, soybeans, hay, purebred cattle and wheat. He has been married to his wife, Judi, for over 25 years and has three children involved in the family farming operation, two of whom are interested in continuing the family farm.

As a progressive family farmer on what he considers to be a small farm in today’s environment, Graff will discuss business management, growth and diversification strategies, sustainability efforts and the 5-year plan for growth on his farm.

A presidential appointee to the state executive director position of the Illinois Farm Service Agency/USDA from March 2001 to January 2009, Graff brings attendees his insight regarding ag policy and how it will affect the future in agriculture. Graff says, “If you’re depending on government payments to make you profitable right now, you’re probably in trouble in the future.”

Bill currently serves on the Illinois Beef checkoff board and is a member of the Taloma Farmers Grain board of directors, chairman of the Logan County Regional Planning Commission and president of the Illinois State University Agricultural Alumni Association.

Bill has a successful podcast on agricultural topics and a sizeable following on Twitter.

Thursday, January 31, 2013 – 11 a.m.-12 p.m.

Gary Porter will be the presenter.

Porter is a third generation farmer in Mercer County, Missouri. His family raises corn, soybeans, sorghum and Angus cattle. Gary will discuss business management, growth and diversification strategies, sustainability efforts and the 5-year plan for growth on his farm.

Gary’s business sense and adoption of new technologies in his farming operation as well as his experience representing corn farmers on an international level through his efforts with the U.S. Grains Council (USGC) Rest of the World Programs Advisory Team gives him a unique perspective.

A seven-time National Corn Growers Association National Corn Yield Contest winner, Gary is president of Porter Farms, an officer on the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council, president of the Public Water Supply District and former Missouri Corn Growers Association officer.

Gary’s personal philosophy includes working to uphold the family tradition of farming and conserving the land to ensure his sons have a future in agriculture.
