Growth implants benefit environment, vet says

In light of the drought and feed shortage for cattle, producers are encouraged to efficiently manage their herds. One of the key steps, says Merck animal tech veterinarian Harold Newcomb, is to use growth implants.

“To efficiently use all the nutrition that is taken in. This becomes especially important as high as supplemental feed is now. The animal needs to use it as efficiently as possible.”  Newcomb says there’s another benefit to implants that isn’t talked about much, “Because they are so efficient, they are actually better for the environment. The animal’s utilizing what he’s taking in so he’s not using up so many natural resources.”

Newcomb, a Mississippi cattle producer, says that environmental benefit is “hugely important” as cattle producers go forward and portray themselves as stewards of the land and their natural resources.

  • Hope you remind this guy that he needs to improve his marketing message…………Not only are implants good for the environment…………….If you are patriotic you will use them. After all……it is the RIGHT thing to do.

More seriously…….IF I was using implants now……….would stop immediately based on this guy’s BS. In fact…….I am inclined to never use any Merck products ever again.
