U.S. winter wheat rating dips again

USDA reports that drier than normal weather continues to take its’ toll on this year’s U.S. winter wheat crop.

As of Sunday, 84% of the crop has emerged, compared to 86% both a year ago and for the five year average with South Dakota the furthest behind their normal pace. 34% of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, compared to 36% last week and 50% this time last year with the Plains states in the worst shape.

84% of cotton is harvested, compared to 85% a year ago and 77% on average.

95% of sorghum is harvested, compared to 91% last year and 87% on average.

The last national crop progress report of 2012 is due out Monday, November 26.
