Ohio harvest nears completion

Fall harvest is winding down around the state.  Ninety percent of the corn crop has been harvested,that is ahead of last year by 26 percent and 7 points ahead of the five-year average.  Farmers have been active with fall field work including fall tillage, hauling grain, and applying fertilizer and herbicide.

Winter wheat fields are 90 percent emerged – 15 percent ahead of last year but equal to the five-year average.  Forty-nine percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Fall precipitation has helped to restore topsoil moisture as 85 percent is now called adequate to surplus – but the subsoil still remains dry.
