Analyst: Corn has edge in acreage battle

The battle for acres between corn and soybeans over the next few months could become intense.

Analyst Sterling Liddell of Rabo AgriFinance says that, right now, corn appears to have a slight edge.

“It looks like there are a lot of farmers considering corn down in the Delta region—and probably also in the Dakota area again,” Liddell says. “As we go into spring, soybeans will have to make some kind of a run against corn in order to bid acres back.

But Liddell says that, in the Midwest, there could be fewer acres of corn-on-corn, “so it may not be as strong of a move to corn in the Midwest.”
