One health approach makes sense

For Jeff Wuebker, a pork producer from Darke County Ohio, the one health approach of bringing animal health, human health and environmental health together to address the antimicrobial resistance issue makes sense.

“If we look at it from just one side I think we’re looking at it from a blind side,” said Wuebker. “A total approach is extremely important in this issue, we forget how everything interacts in our environment.”

But Wuebker agreed with others at the symposium, the key to having the one health approach be successful is everyone working together.

“One of the common themes was not to point fingers, whether it is on the human health side, or the food animal production side,” Wuebker said. “That’s what we all need to remember as we move forward with this discussion.”
