Harvest continues in Ohio

Corn harvest in Ohio as of Sunday, November 11 was 83 percent complete, a 9 point improvement from a week ago and 10 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average.

The 5 days suitable for field work last week allowed Ohio’s farmers to harvest another seven percent of the soybean crop, bringing the 2012 harvest to 93 percent complete, two points behind the 5-year average.

Winter wheat seeding has reached 97 percent complete, 77 percent of the crop has emerged. The condition of the wheat crop improved slightly from last week with 84 percent in fair-to-good condition.

The condition rating of pastures slipped slightly in the past week, with 32 percent rated poor to very poor, 65 percent of the pastures were in the fair-to-good category, down one point from last week.

Topsoil moisture in the state is rated 87 percent adequate to surplus, 13 percent short to very short.
