USDA increases corn, soybean estimates

USDA has raised its estimates for 2012 U.S. corn and soybean production.

The Ag Department sees corn at 10.725 billion bushels, with an average yield of 122.3 bushels per acre, up on the month and above the average pre-report estimates. USDA has harvested are at 87.721 million acres, unchanged from October.

Soybeans are projected at 2.971 billion bushels, with an average of 39.3 bushels per acre, also more than USDA estimated last month and larger than analysts’ expectations. Harvested acreage is seen at 75.693 million acres, steady with last month.

Still, these are well below last year’s numbers due to widespread drought.

The next to last set of estimates for the 2012 U.S. corn and soybean crops is out December 11.
