Funds available for storm damage

Even in Ohio, producers who suffered storm damage from Hurricane Sandy may be eligible for Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) funds.

“And that program can assist landowners by helping them remove debris or restoring fencing,” said Brandi Koehler, conservation programs chief at the Ohio Farm Service Agency (FSA).

But in order to receive funds, Koehler tells Brownfield producers do have to meet certain eligibility requirements.

“What we like to have happen, the best case scenario is that the producer comes to us first, before they do the work, which I know isn’t always feasible,” Koehler said.

Another eligibility requirement for ECP funds, there has to be at least $1,000 worth of damage in order to receive federal funds.
