More than 2.6 Billion dollars in crop insurance claims have been sent to farmers and ranchers so far this year, according to the National Crop Insurance Services bi-weekly indemnity report. It says the top five crops that have suffered the most damage from this year’s extensive, on-going drought are corn, wheat, cotton, soybeans and pasture rangeland and forage. Upwards of 1.2 Million crop insurance policies protect more than 281 Million acres of eligible crops. The total of crop indemnity payments LAST year was nearly 11 Billion dollars.
