Nebraska state climatologist Al Dutcher says that—statistically—the chances of a widespread drought as severe as the one seen in 2012, reoccurring in 2013, are pretty slim.
Dutcher pegs the chance of that happening in Nebraska at around five percent.
Dutcher says he’s seeing some significant improvements in the 2013 picture for the eastern and central Corn Belt. But he says the outlook for the western and northern Corn Belt is less certain.
