USB grower leaders assuring customers

The United Soybean Board (USB) has been especially active in assuring foreign customers of US soybeans that the product is safe and there’s enough supply.

Dwain Ford, an Illinois grower, is a member of the USB International Marketing committee. He says members recently met with over 300 foreign trading partners in New Orleans.

Ford tells Brownfield Ag News, “There is definitely concern around the world about the size of the crop but they understand the situation and they know there is nothing U.S. soybean growers could do about this, just due to the drought conditions.”

Ford says they are working to assure those buyers about the soybean supply, “So far, anyway, to my knowledge, the importers are getting the product that they need. We’re going to do everything we can to ensure they receive the product they need.”

As for quality, Ford says that a timely USB/GIPSA analysis helped avoid a trade disruption by assuring Japan that residue found in a soybean shipment earlier this year was an isolated incident.

“So, it happened at a very convenient time, if it had to happen, to prove that the U.S. soybeans are safe and they are reliable and there are no unallowable fungicide residues in our U.S. soybeans,” says Ford.

Japan is the third largest export market for US soybeans.
