Seeing the drought impact on yields
As harvest begins in Northwest Ohio, the impact of the summer drought is being reflected in corn yields.
Kevin Homan of Homan Seed Service at Napoleon in Henry County says even though farmers were expecting disappointing yields, reality is still difficult.
“We’ve been in 20 bushel corn and we’ve been in 180 bushel corn, so it’s been all over the board,” said Homan. “Most of it’s in the lower end, but we do have a few pockets that are pretty good, for what kind of year we went through.”
Soybeans, Homan says are yielding a little better.
“Beans on the other hand, seem for the most part to be pretty decent,” Homan said. “Ranging from 35 to 65, and some places even better than that.”
