Midwest summer was hard on the big pumpkins

Entries and pumpkin weights were down at the Anamosa, Iowa big pumpkin weigh-in this past weekend. Growers from Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin trucked their big pumpkins to Anamosa for the Midwest weigh off, but most were disappointed at the weight of their loads.

Growers cited the drought and difficult growing conditions for the light weights and poor color of this year’s entries.

John Barlow of Gays Mills, Wisconsin won this year’s event with a weight of 1269 pounds.
