There is one thing for certain, when the Farm Bill Now Rally kicks off at 11 a.m. in front of the U.S. Capitol, the message to Congress will be clear.
“We don’t want a disaster bill, we don’t want an extension, we want a Farm Bill and we want it now,” said Garry Niemeyer of Illinois, President of the National Corn Growers Association. “A five year, comprehensive Farm Bill.
Niemeyer tells Brownfield the hang up is with the Speaker of the House, John Boehner of Ohio, a fact Niemeyer made quite clear in his conversation with his own Congressman, Congressman Shilling of Illinois.
“And I was also very blunt that the Speaker needs to understand that there is a bunch of farm people that know that there’s an election coming up, real soon,” Niemeyer said. “There’s no time to hesitate, there’s no wasted rhetoric, we got right to the point, I haven’t minced any words, you know exactly where I stand and he did, trust me.”
Organizers are expecting 500 farmers to attend the Farm Bill Now Rally in Washington, D.C.
