The Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour estimates the 2012 U.S. corn crop at 10.478 Billion bushels with an average yield of 120.25 bushels per acre – plus or minus one-percent. Pro Farmer estimates this year’s soybean crop at 2.6 Billion bushels, with an average yield of 34.8 bushels per acre – plus or minus 2-percent. They do expect larger planted acreage projections for both corn and soybeans based on FSA certified acreage data. Based on tour results, Pro Farmer sees 89.5% of corn’s planted area being successfully harvested and while there’s no official estimate for beans, they expect harvested acreage to be less than USDA’s last guess.
Everything’s down from USDA’s August crop estimates and both crops are significantly smaller than USDA’s initial projections because of the scorching drought in key growing areas.
