Governor talks up drought relief at ham breakfast

It’s this particular day at the Missouri State Fair that brings out politicians and ham lovers.   It’s another long time tradition at the fair – the Governor’s Ham Breakfast.  The 60th annual event brought together farmer leaders and elected officials from both sides of the aisle and all corners of the state.  More than 1,200 people attended.  Grand Champion hams and bacon were among the items auctioned off to support ag youth.  More than $22,000 was raised for the Missouri State Fair Foundation.  The number one topic of discussion was the drought. Governor Jay Nixon praised his administration, and state and soil water districts for working non-stop to help farmers and ranchers with the cost-share water program that has awarded over 4,000 contracts to get emergency water to livestock.

Additional buyers for ham and bacon auction announced Friday
