President urges 5-year farm bill

Administration provides more drought assistance President Obama says Congress needs to pass a five-year Farm Bill immediately upon their return from their break. At the White House Rural Council meeting Tuesday, Obama said that’s the single best way to help farmers and rural communities struggling with the historic drought and will provide them much needed certainty.

The president gave a nod to the Senate for its bipartisan work on a farm bill and said he hopes Congress members spending their break in many rural areas will “feel a sense of urgency” to get together and get a farm bill finished.
