Administration provides more drought assistance

President Obama announced additional funds for drought assistance through a number of departments and agencies at the White House Rural Council gathering on Tuesday.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says it’s a multi-department and multi- agency response through which the USDA will provide an additional $30 Million in financial and technical assistance for crop and livestock producers in 19 states.

“So, we’re doing what we can but we could do a lot more if Congress would act, upon its return, to pass the Farm Bill with drought assistance,” says Vilsack.

Nearly half of those funds are being transferred from unobligated programs into the Emergency Conservation Program which assists in moving water to livestock and providing emergency forage for livestock.
