Highly regarded for their flavor, heirloom tomatoes are growing in popularity. From seed lines that date back more than 50 years, unchanged, heirloom tomatoes come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Jim Quinn, University of Missouri Extension Horticulturalist, says heirlooms are generally sweeter and more flavorful than hybrid tomatoes.
