At the recent Iowa Farm Bureau Economic Summit in Ames, Jennifer McCubbin of Cenex Harvest States delivered a very interesting report on the current fertilizer situation, as well as the longer-term outlook.
Among other things, McCubbin discussed how low river levels on the Mississippi River system are hampering barge movement, which could create logistics problems for suppliers tying to re-stock fertilizer supplies for this fall. She also discussed ”just-in-time” delivery and the volatility in the fertilizer markets.
