Money is being made available to improve housing for farmworkers. USDA Rural Development is taking pre-applications for loans and grants to build or rehab farmworker rental housing.
The agency’s aim is to boost the supply of rental housing for domestic farm laborers. Groups eligible for the assistance include housing authorities, state and local governments, Indian tribes as well as non-profit community and faith-based groups. The USDA says projects that are energy efficient and that involve energy generation will get priority. The application process is in two-phases with applicants making the first cut invited to submit final applications.
