Nebraska farm sees increased yields from variable rate irrigation

Chuck Emanuel farms with his brother and son near North Bend in east-central Nebraska.

Emanuel says their corn and soybean operation is 75 percent irrigated, with 80 percent of those irrigated acres now under center pivot and the other 20 percent still being watered with gated pipe.

Emanuel’s son has a company that has been doing variable rate irrigation (VRI) on center pivots.  Chuck tells Brownfield they’ve been using VRI on their own pivots for a couple of years now and that he likes what he sees.
