MO Governor seeks ag disaster declaration

Every county in Missouri is included in Governor Jay Nixon’s disaster declaration request made to U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack today.

Farm Service Agency drought assessments found that all 114 counties meet the disaster threshold.

Nixon says “agriculture is the backbone of Missouri’s economy” and “farmers are facing extremely difficult conditions because of record heat and low precipitation.”

A disaster declaration would make emergency financial assistance available to eligible farmers and ranchers through the Farm Service Agency.
