Hot, dry week takes toll on Missouri crops

The Missouri field office of the National Ag Statistics Service states high temperatures and no precipitation over the past week took its toll on all crops.

As of Sunday, 48% of corn and 49% of soybeans are now in poor to very poor condition with crops developing faster than average.

Topsoil moisture is at the lowest point this year with 71% very short, 26% short and only 3% adequate. Subsoil moisture was also down on the week at 58% very short, 35% short and 7% adequate.

Buchanan was the only county reporting more than a half an inch of rainfall.

76% of Missouri’s pastures are called poor to very poor, including all of the south-central district, and 18% of hay and 21% of stock water are said to be in short to very short supply.
