Despite technological advances in the fight against the PRRS virus in swine—PRRS standing for “porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome”—the disease continues to be a thorn in the side of the pork industry.
A 2011 study showed that PRRS’ impact on the pork industry hasn’t changed much, either good or bad, since 2005.
However, Dr. Derald Holtkamp of Iowa State University tells Brownfield that he is encouraged by some fairly recent developments in the battle against PRRS. We visited with Holtkamp at Iowa Swine Day in Ames.
