The Indiana FFA State Convention gets underway today, Monday, June 18 and while current FFA members from across the state make their way to West Lafayette, former members will be there too, including the state officer team elected back in 1982. David White, senior director at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation was a member of that state officer team. White says while it’s nice to look back, he’d rather look at what’s taken place since he served 30 years ago.
“We now have more young women involved in FFA, the number of proficiency contests have more than doubled, career development opportunities have continued to grow and the organization continues to grow by leaps and bounds in membership, said White. “It’s great to look back, but it’s also great to look forward and see how FFA has changed for the better over the past 30 years too.”
A couple of side notes, the 1982 Indiana FFA State Convention, the year Dave White was elected to a state office was Dave Russell’s first year covering the Indiana State FFA Convention, also interesting, half of that 1982 State FFA officer team now lives in Ohio.
