The Environmental Protection Agency has removed the final hurdle for E15. The EPA has notified the Renewable Fuels Association that RFA has satisfactorily addressed concerns with residual fuel left in gas pump hoses in the industry’s Misfueling Mitigation Plan. The ruling clears the way for retailers to start offering E15 for use in cars, pickups and SUVs made since 2001.
Fuel providers and retailers wishing to provide the fuel must first register with the EPA. RFA president and CEO Bob Dinneen says the fuel does still face litigation, state regulation issues and threats of Congressional intervention which will limit rapid adoption But Dinneen says the ethanol industry is fully committed to offer American drivers a choice at the pump, “and a lower-cost choice at that.”
