Hay crop needs rain too

After a very good first cutting of high quality hay, Neall Weber of Weber Farms at Hillard, Ohio says second cutting is just beginning, but like corn and soybeans, the hay crop needs rain.

“It needs rain just like anything else,” said Weber. “The alfalfa will probably flourish a little better, it’s a more deeply rooted plant than the grasses, so the yield won’t be as affected, however most of our customers like that grass and alfalfa mix for their horses.”

In fact, Neall Weber says the feeding value may actually be a little better with the alfalfa being more prevalent.
