White House supports Senate proposal

The Obama Administration supports passage of the Senate Farm Bill. The White House issued a statement saying that it’s critical that Congress pass legislation providing certainty for rural America, which includes needed reforms and savings. Among the list of farm bill priorities for the White House, the measure should promote rural development, preserve a farm safety net, maintain strong nutrition programs and enhance conservation. The White House goes on to say that the bill should honor our World Trade Organization commitments, and advance agricultural research.

The administration emphasized the importance of the crop insurance provisions of the farm bill, while at the same time strengthening the farm safety net in times of need and supporting the next generation of farmers. The Administration also strongly supports the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
