It was last summer during the 2011 Ohio State Fair that First Lady Karen Kasich announced the creation of the Ohio Agriculture Women of the Year Awards.
“She came to us as soon as the Administration took over and said, I want to recognize women in agriculture, I want to recognize the significant achievements they make to the industry and make sure we point out the good things,” said Janelle Mead, Deputy Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). “We’re really happy she brought this concept to us and that we’ve been able to carry it forward.”
The nomination form for the 2012 Ohio Agriculture Women of the Year Awards is available on the ODA web site. The deadline to nominate an outstanding woman in agriculture is May 31.
The 2012 recipients will be recognized at the Ohio State Fair on First Lady’s Day, July 27.
