The Missouri Farm Bureau Federation is joined by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon in applauding the Department of Labor’s decision to withdraw new child worker regulations.
Nixon says, “The withdrawal of these rules restores common sense for farm families across Missouri. Baling hay and doing chores,” he says, “Are rites of passage for many young people on farms here in the heartland.”
Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst says their members and others in Missouri agriculture – especially young people in FFA and 4-H who said ‘let us get our hands dirty’ – let their voices be heard. The collective efforts and the work of Missouri’s congressional delegation – Hurst says – “helped make a difference.”
