Winter storm potential for the Sioux Empire region

A strong storm system is forecast to move into the Central Plains Monday night, and spread a mix of wintry precipitation across the Central and Northern Plains through Wednesday afternoon.

Light snow will spread northeastward across the area beginning late Monday night and become widespread by Tuesday morning. Warmer air will begin working into the region from the south on Tuesday which could allow a wintry mix to develop, with the potential for some rain or freezing rain in the I-90 corridor and southward by Tuesday afternoon.

Colder air works into the region on Tuesday night, which will allow precipitation to transition back to snow overnight. A chance of snow will linger into Wednesday afternoon. The heaviest precipitation is expected Tuesday and Tuesday night.
