Western Farm Show puts more emphasis on livestock

The Western Farm Show is this weekend in Kansas City. The event is designed for the true professional farmer and livestock producer, according to Ken Dean, who manages the show.

“Traditionally, we’ll have all of the farm equipment that you could imagine,” said Dean, during an interview with Brownfield Ag News, from the show site on Tuesday. “At the same time, we’ll have everything that has anything to do with seed; how to get more out of yield, and this year a little bit more of an emphasis on livestock.” Two livestock handling demonstrations will be held at the Western Farm Show on Friday, sponsored by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and conducted by Dr. Ron Gill, Texas AgriLife extension specialist.

With production agriculture doing as well as it is, Dean said farmers will invest the time to attend farm shows “to be smarter and more productive.”

“I think when they come to a farm show, they’re looking for new technology, new ways of doing business and new ways to be more productive on the farm,” said Dean, “and I hope we’re going to be able to show that to them this weekend.”

The Western Farm Show opens with the first of three nights of tractor pulling this Thursday at Kemper Arena. The Western Farm Show is at the American Royal Complex through Sunday, February 26.
