Dave Daniels new Director at Ohio Dept. of Ag

Governor Kasich has named State Senator Dave Daniels of Greenfield in Highland County has director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Daniels, who has served District 17 since 2011 was introduced during the Ohio Farm Bureau’s Ag Day at the Capitol lunch by former director Jim Zehringer.

“It was important for Governor Kasich to have a farmer run the Department of Agriculture,” said Zehringer. “Dave Daniels operated a farm with his father and uncle for many years in Highland County, his experience in state and local government will be invaluable to the department.”

Taking to podium at the Ohio Farm Bureau luncheon Daniels said as a kid he never thought he would be standing before a group as director of agriculture for the State of Ohio.

“First of all I want to thank the Kasich Administration for their support and trust in me, by allowing me this opportunity to lead agriculture,” Daniels said.

In addition to his farming background, Daniels served 8 years in the Ohio House and 18 years in local government. The new director is expected to be sworn in and begin his new duties at the Ohio Department of Agriculture on Thursday, February 16.

“I pledge to you I will work my best every day to promote agriculture in the State of Ohio,” said Daniels. “To make sure agriculture continues to be the foundation of our economy and the foundation for growth and the future of the State of Ohio.”

Jack Fisher, executive vice president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation says the organization is pleased with the selection.

“The thing I’m happy about is Mr. Daniels has administrative experience,” Fisher said. “Serving time as mayor and also as a County Commissioner prior to being in the Statehouse, so I think he brings a good background both for administrative duties and certainly he knows and supports agriculture and that combination works well as director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.”
