Ohio well represented at NACD

For Karl Gebhardt, the new Chief of the Division of Soil and Water Resources at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources the opportunity to attend the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas this week is an opportunity to learn what’s going on in other parts of the country. But Gebhardt tells Brownfield several folks from Ohio have been on the program.

“One of which was on the Grand Lake St. Mary’s situation and how we have addressed that and the dissolved phosphorus issue is getting to be an issue throughout the Midwest and so a lot of folks were asking us a lot of questions on how we’re dealing with it,” Gebhardt said. “We’re serving as a very positive example of some good conservation programs.”

Kent Stuckey, President of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts says around 50 from Ohio are in Las Vegas for the NACD Annual Meeting.

“It’s been a good session here, good meeting, we’re learning a lot, said Stuckey. “I’m pleased with the turnout of district officials that want to learn and participate in the meeting, they’ve been very professional and getting a lot of work done out here.”
