Ag directors meet with EPA officials in KCK

Agriculture department leaders from 10 states met with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials in Kansas City, Kansas.

The ag directors – or their representatives – discussed with EPA region 7 and region 8 officials environmental regulatory issues involving agriculture – from air quality standards for particulate matter to water quality to CAFOs.

EPA Region 7 Administrator Karl Brooks says ag producers “deserve credit for taking significant steps to protect the environment while finding innovative ways to feed millions,” adding that, “EPA needs to hear the views of state agriculture directors as part of (their) decision making process.”

State ag directors or their representatives who attended the meeting at the EPA Region 7 office are from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.

General Counsel Michael Warrick for the Missouri Department of Agriculture is attending for Missouri Ag Director Jon Hagler who is involved in the Missouri Governor’s Conference on Agriculture in Kansas City, Missouri – which is running concurrently with the EPA meeting today.
