A list released by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) ranks states and the District of Columbia by their “humane” animal laws – and upholds California as a model state, ranking it first, for a third year in a row. The HSUS ranks Missouri 45th among states for what it says is a lack of humane animal laws, codes and farm animal policies.
Missouri Farmers Care spokesman Don Nikodim, who is head of the Missouri Pork Producers Association, says it’s nothing more than a publicity stunt by the “radical animal-rights group.”
Nikodim says by upholding California says a lot about the kind of state government the HSUS wants to see in Missouri, -quote- “one in which big-money special interests can buy laws through initiative petitions and misleading campaigning.” Nikodim says Missouri Farmers Care doesn’t believe the rankings by the HSUS are honest assessments – because they do not think HSUS is an honest organization.
The Missouri Farmers Care Coalition was formed during Missouri’s fight to defeat an HSUS-backed Puppy Mill ballot measure that was passed by Missouri voters in 2010 but later amended by the Missouri legislature with the support of ag groups in 2011.
The next in a series of Missouri Farmers Care Town Hall meetings about the “Humane Society of the United States and threats to Missouri agriculture” is Thursday, January 26th at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri.
[The HSUS ranks Illinois in fourth place; Iowa and Nebraska tied 21st; Wisconsin, 30th; Indiana, 35th; Ohio, 36th; South Dakota, 51st]

connect the dots; What political party do these radical animal-rights people belong to? What political party do the people behind the EPA dust controls belong to? How about the people behind the Labor Dept trying to prevent youth from working on the farm? I will stop here, as you can see the political party is known for being anti-rural…..maybe some of you will think before you vote next time….
Everything the H$U$ does is a publicity stunt! Who really cares what the H$U$ thinks or doesn’t think? They’re a bunch of loonies who think that a rat’s life is equal to a child’s life. You should spend your time and money on ad campaigns that tell the public the truth about where the donations given to the H$U$ and PETA actually go….That money certainly doesn’t go to saving adorable puppies and kitties. …..
Ca is their model humane state? Interesting. Because according to the two women arrested on more than 100 animal cruelty charges, Los Angeles Animal Care and Control not only watched, but assisted them to load 140 dogs, packing multiple dogs into small crates, into an enclosed U Haul truck with no ventilation, food or water for a journey cross country for “humane relocation”. HSUS was a strong supporter and the money behind LAAS’ new mandatory spay/neuter ordinance, which has blossomed well beyond it’s original scope and now further restricts what registries intact animals are ‘allowed” to belong to and rewards utility workers for snitching on homeowners with pets, not for alleged abuse or neglect, but for the awful crime of Existing While Intact.
CA intents to now repeal the Hayden Act and does not intent to pass the No Kill bill in it’s place; when shelters are no longer financially rewarded for the number of dogs they kill, and still not assisted based on the number of dogs they successfully adopt, and are no longer required to hold an animal any period of time to be reclaimed by an owner, how many will die? How is this humane?
I’m not surprised that California is their model state. California is HSUS’s biggest fundraising state and the land of outside special interest groups pouring money into ballot initiatives and legislators’ pockets. The #1 state distinction is just another reward for those who have imbibed the koolaid and helped push anti-animal use bills and ballot initiatives. Fiscally-challenged California is also the land of the rich and famous – celebrities to wine and dine and present Humane Awards to at the annual HSUS awards gala in Beverly Hills.
Shelter dogs/ Homeless cats? They are just PROPS to exploit in countless fundraising pitches so HSUS can fraudulently rake in a fortune to spend on economic sabotage of farmers, hunters, retailers, and their most vulnerable donors. The 140 dogs tortured in the LA Animal Care and Control-assisted relocation provide the kind of images HSUS loves to videotape and use in those dog and cat pity commercials. If they were 140 chickens, pigs or horses, HSUS would pretend to care. Dogs abused with the help of their pro-killing buddies? A corrupt shelter system? The conscience-challenged, power broker loving Wayne Pacelle does not care.
Colorado’s ag dept is now run by at least 4 former hsus employees. There has been quite a lot of outrageous conduct against average people, farmers and others.More than a fox in the hen house.Check out the law allowing animals of ALLEGED abusers are now taken, sold or destroyed, then when the person is PROVEN INNOCENT,too bad so sad the stae is no longer required to uphold ones constitutional rights by returning their animals ,nor must they make them whole in any monetary way.
WAKE UP MISSOURI…don’t let this happen here!
