2011 farm payments lowest since 1997

According to USDA, government payments paid directly to farmers are expected to total 10.6 billion dollars for 2011.

That’s a 14.4 percent decrease from the estimate of 12.4 billion dollars paid out in 2010—and, if realized, it would represent the lowest amount paid to producers since 1997.

The largest decreases in payments are expected to be in disaster relief payments and ACRE—Average Crop Revenue Election—payments.
