New ad campaign highlights producers

Steve Foglesong is an Illinois rancher.

His family is part of a new McDonald’s ad campaign that features agriculture producers from across the country.  Danya Proud, McDonald’s spokesman says the new set of ads tells the story of where the journey begins for McDonald’s food.  “It should come as no surprise that we have struggled with perception about what our food is and where our food comes from for many years,” she says.  “This campaign really showcases the hardworking farmers and ranchers who not only share, but uphold McDonald’s mission and standards to deliver safe, high quality food to our consumers.”

Proud says while the goal of the campaign was to tell the story from farm to restaurant, it hasn’t come without its critics.  “We’re not going to be able to please everyone,” she says.  “But, we are a brand that has a responsibility to educate.  We are a brand that has a responsibility to be transparent.”

Foglesong says producers have to be aware that there is a portion of the population that wants to know how their food makes it to their table.  In an interview with Brownfield he said, “we have a great story to tell.  We’ve been guilty of hiding a light under a bushel for a while.”   Foglesong goes on to say, “there are so few people that really understand agriculture and what we do, that those of us that are actively involved have to be willing to put ourselves out there a little bit – and share what we do.”

For Foglesong – that meant opening the doors of his western Illinois ranch to an entire nation.
