IFB delegation addresses farm bill

As the American Farm Bureau federation prepares for debate on the federal farm bill next month at its annual meeting in Hawaii, Indiana Farm Bureau’s delegation readdressed their position on the issue this past weekend at the state convention in Indianapolis.  Delegates added language that states IFB supports the principles embodied in an AFBF proposal called the Systemic Risk Reduction Program.  SRRP is an alternative to the shallow loss proposals other groups have put forward.  AFBF’s proposal would cover as much as 70-80 percent of a farmer’s losses which would protect farmers from catastrophic losses that could put them out of business.

Indiana Farm Bureau president Don Villwock will take these policy recommendations to the AFBF resolutions committee meeting this week.

Also during the delegate session Saturday, Isabella Chism of Howard County was reelected by acclamation to a fourth term as Indiana Farm Bureau 2nd vice-president.
