Ag committee leaders seek agreement

Leaders of the agriculture committees of the House and Senate say they hope to have a farm bill agreement worked out by week’s end.

Once finalized, those recommendations will be presented to the deficit reduction super committee.

According to a report in The Hill Online, legislators are trying to finalize a three-track plan on commodity programs.  It would include a new revenue-based “shallow-loss” insurance program that is supported by corn, wheat, barley, soy and canola farmers—a modification of existing price-based payments to rice and peanut farmers—and higher marketing loan and revenue insurance policies for cotton growers.
