VandenBosch named U.W. CALS dean

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has named the new dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). Kathryn VandenBosch, currently a professor and head of the plant biology department at the University of Minnesota since 2001.

Prior to that she was on the faculty at Texas A & M for 12 years. VandenBosch holds M.S. and PhD degrees in botany from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She spent time at the U.W. Madison as a postdoctoral associate and says she has always had a great respect for the research conducted there.

Her research focuses on the genetics of plant-microbe interactions and nitrogen fixation in legumes.

VandenBosch will assume her new role on March 1, 2012 when interim dean William Tracy will return to his position as Chair of the Department of Agronomy.
