Celebration of Agriculture awards

Demonstrating leadership to maximize the potential of Indiana agriculture.  That’s the criteria for the AgriVision award presented at the Celebration of Agriculture event earlier this week at the Indiana State Fair.  Lt. Governor Becky Skillman said Dr. Vic Lechtenberg of Purdue was a logical, natural choice because of his decades of work helping to make Indiana agriculture a world leader.

Dr. Lechtenberg said he was humbled to be honored by the people he served for many years.  Lechtenberg has numerous accomplishments during his tenure.  He played a vital role in the development of the Purdue Extension New Ventures Team and that Agricultural Innovation and Commercialization Center; programs that promote economic development within the state.  Lechtenberg says agriculture is on a great trajectory and doesn’t anticipate that changing as agriculture continues to become more integrated with the rest of the economy.  He adds agriculture people and the people in rural communities can no longer depend solely on farming to support their community and they need to become integrated with the rest of Indiana’s economy.  Lechtenberg says the people of Indiana are doing just that.

The Lt. Governor also presented Brownfield’s Dave Russell with the Partner’s in Progress Award during the Celebration of Agriculture event at this year’s state fair.
