Illinois to offer incentive to purchase local with food stamps

Illinois food stamp cardholders will now have more spending power at the Illinois Products Farmers’ Market.  The Illinois Department of Agriculture received a $5,000 grant that will allow LINK cardholders to double their purchases to as much as $10 per market day.  Beginning July 7th, if an individual spends $20 on their LINK card they will get an additional $10 to spend at the market.  Market manager Kristi Jones says they are ecstatic to receive the grant and continue working towards the goal of making locally grown products available to everyone.

The Illinois Products Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday evening through October 20 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.  More information is available online at www.illinoisproductmarkets.com.
