Coppess stepping down at FSA

The Administrator of the Farm Service Agency is stepping down; Senate Ag Committee Chair Debbie Stabenow has announced Jonathan Coppess will become the Chief Counsel for the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Coppess became FSA chief in July of 2009 when Doug Caruso stepped down after three months on the job. Prior to that he served as the agency’s Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs and previously worked as a Senate aide. Coppess grew up on his family’s corn and soybean farm in Ohio and earned a law degree from the George Washington University Law School.

Stabenow also announcing the appointment of Chris Adamo as Staff Director for the Committee. For the last four years, the Michigan native has served as legislative counsel on many of Senator Stabenow’s top priorities such as the 2008 Farm bill and energy legislation, where his primary focuses were agriculture, conservation, as well as a wide range of energy policies. Adamo earned a license to practice law in Montana and earned his law degree from Vermont Law School. He was born and raised in Michigan and went to undergraduate school at Kalamazoo College, MI.
