Grandin: Ag making progress, still room for improvement

When it comes to animal welfare issues, Dr. Temple Grandin has admirers and critics on both sides of the debate.  Grandin is given a tremendous amount of credit for the work she has done to improve livestock handling procedures in the meat packing industry. She is a staunch defender of animal agriculture and is quick to compliment livestock producers for their progress in animal handling.  But she also stands firm in her belief that small battery cages for egg-laying hens and gestation stalls for sows should be phased out.  At the I-29 dairy conference in Sioux Falls, Brownfield’s Ken Anderson visited with Grandin about her views on those practices.
