Grassley welcomes news on Korea FTA

Iowa Senator Charles Grassley says the Obama Administration’s goal to gain Congressional approval of the U.S.-South Korea free trade agreement by July 1st is good news for agriculture.

“It’s also a very necessary step to take because the European community already has a free trade agreement with South Korea,” Grassley says, “and if we don’t hasten to get ours agreed to, they’re going to be taking agricultural markets away from us—even, probably, some manufacturing markets away from us.”

Grassley doesn’t expect much resistance to the South Korea FTA from Congress. “With the President supporting it, it will not be difficult,” he says.

And Grassley hopes pending FTA’s with Colombia and Panama will not be far behind.
